What is X265 Encoding

What is x265

It is a High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) is a video compression standard such as H.264(x264).But this is mordern and capabel of compressing twice the size of old H.264.It can alternatively be used to provide substantially improved video quality at the same bit rate. It can support 8K UHD and resolutions up to 8192×4320.

That’s what Wikipedia  says.

so what is x265 really. I assume that you are aware of x264. ( of course you know , if not you won’t be here.) x264 (H.264)  is a great compression method that allow you to encode your favourite HD videos in to low file size while retain the quality.

Next gen of x264 is the x265. It has better compression method than x264. so it compress more. but still it retain the same quality. so how exactly it does this. It can reproduce more quality form low bit rate. as you know bit-rate has key to file size. see below example.

I have ripped bluray in to following formats . see for your self.

file 1  x264   bit rate 4500 kpbs     4.2GB       Great quality

file 2 x264  bit rate  1750 kpbs     2.2GB       low quality

file 3  x265 bit rate  1500 kpbs    1.6GB      Great quality

fle 4   x265  bitrate  4500 kpbs     3.7Gb     Highest quality possible

now you get it. file 3 and 1 holds the same quality while reducing  the file size.

right now there aren’t so many software for this. only few cmd methods.  but i will explain later how to use one of GUI and CMD Hybrid encoder to do the job.

put your thoughts and experience in the comments so i can make a nice second chapter for the might x265.
